Soon after this opulent Victorian home was built by newspaper editor William Byers in 1883, it was sold to William Gray Evans, the son of Colorado's second governor. Both families retain a prominent position in Denver society and the Byers-Evans House is now open to visitors wanting an insight into late 19th century architecture and design, as well as period furnishings.

Colorado's impressive State Capitol was completed in 1886 and features a stunning 24 carat gold plated dome, the top of which (after a 93 step climb) offers spectacular views of the Rockies. The inside boasts a unique rose colored Colorado onyx, while other features include murals, portraits of past US presidents, temporary exhibits, carved statues and brilliant stained glass windows.

Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Larimer Square has been restored to its former glory and is one of Denver's favorite shopping, dining and nightlife destinations. Period buildings dating back to the late 1800s now house shops, restaurants, bars and clubs, offering definitive historical insights. Larimer Square is the birthplace of Denver and was considerably restored and renovated during the 1960s.

The Molly Brown House is a beautiful Victorian house built in 1889 and the home of 'unsinkable' Molly Brown from 1894 to 1932. Molly Brown became a national heroine after the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 when she helped a group of immigrant women to safety. The house is now open to visitors and boasts lovely furnishings, artworks and temporary exhibits.

Denver Landmarks and Monuments: Four Mile Historic Park - 715 South Forest Street, Denver, Colorado (CO), 80246, USA

This park contains the oldest home in Denver, built in 1859 out of logs and just four miles from downtown Denver, giving it its name. The home includes period furnishings, outbuildings and farm equipment, as well as weekend horse drawn carriage rides.
